Alfonso's Of Hollywood competition Western Fast Draw Gunbelt Holster. It is also known as a "Speed Rig". This model of rig was designed by Alfonso Pineda in the 1960's for fast-draw competition. This is an insanely well-designed holster which has a muzzle forward cant and low-cut front, which aids competition speed shooters in achieving the fastest times possible for a draw and shoot.
The holster is a part of the entire rig. Most Arvo Ojala western rigs only have a steel insert.
This Alfonso's holster is COMPLETELY ENCASED IN STEEL, top to bottom and that extends to the steel-lined bridge to the gunbelt and wraps onto the gunbelt (hip) as one-piece. A large chrome stud is in place for added strength. The belt buckle is by North & Judd - the supplier to Arvo Ojala, Andy Anderson and Alfonso and is original to the rig. When this gun rig is on and the straps are in place, there is no wiggle to the holster. You have a piece strong piece of heavy-gauge steel double-wrapped in leather against your thigh and hip to stop that from happening.
The skirt of the holster is screwed to the holster via a Chicago screw. The hammer thong also goes through the skirt before it is tied off. The lace holes at the bottom of the holster are also tied off. Alfonso created the rig this way. In short, this rig locks onto you!
This is the same brand and style of gun rig Bob Munden (Fastest gun alive) has used. Bob Munden was a legend in competition shooting, as is his wife.I have a more detailed video added to the listing photos of this gun rig. Tons of photos of this rig are also provided here in the photo section of the listing. Dummy Bullets and Six-gun NOT included. This holster fit's most Single Action Army Colts, Rugers, Cimmaron Arms SAA, etc...
The holster from top to bottom measures out to 7. It fits my 4 5/8 Ruger Vaquero SAA.
Any barrel longer than that would fit, but protrude through the bottom of the holster. Steel lined holster boot, shank and hip plate. Dual top grain leather 5/8 holster straps with Alfonso-correct buckles for removable leg tie-down straps were added with period and maker-correct matching buckles. The rig did not come with those when I got it.Alfonso also factory-punched two holes at the bottom-rear of the holster for a traditional rawhide string tie-down. There is a tear in the 18th. Bullet loop from the buckle but it still retains the bullet. Removable belt buckle - I've never seen an Alfonso or Ojala rig with this option until now.
I have a 34 waist and it fits me on the third or fourth hole with room for adjustment. The leather leg tie-down straps are new as are the holster straps & leather tie-down hammer thong. The original leg straps were not present when I got the rig. I replaced the holster bands due to cracking. So far, I have not, with no intention to do so.
I have added these to give the user the maximum functionality of the rig. These can easily be removed or replaced if you chose, but I like them. This is a strong, working shooter's rig. It is like a worn-in baseball glove.
Arvo Ojala also used steel lined holsters. Alfonso worked in Arvo's leather shop before venturing out to open his own leather shop and take Arvo's style with him.
Alfonso took Arvo's design into new and groundbreaking directions. Alfonso and Arvo have both passed, however Alfonso's son still owns the company. They are still in business and produce some of the finest gun leather in the world. Alfonso's of Hollywood rigs are famous the world over.
Alfonso Pineda's name is synonymous with quality workmanship and expert craftsmanship. For more than half a century, Alfonso's leather products have won him a reputation world wide as the maker of the finest leather products in the world. His holsters are worn by famous western stars and world champion quick draw artists.
His unique western holster designs and his rapid draw techniques have revolutionized the western movie industry in Hollywood. Knowledgeable law enforcement officers prefer his holsters and equipment over those of other manufacturers.
Alfonso's reputation which is founded on excellence, does not allow him to compromise on quality or workmanship. He was a perfectionist and indeed a true artist in leather. His son possesses the same trait for seeking perfection.
Born in 1923 in Argentina, Alfonso Pineda got his start in leather craft while guiding American tourists on aligator hunts, where he would use the skins to craft wallets, belts and other fine leather items. After immigrating to the U. In 1957, Alfonso trained and worked directly with the legendary Hollywood holster designer and maker, Arvo Ojala best known for his "fast draw" rigs used in western films.Alfonso also worked along with John Bianchi and Andy Anderson while at Arvos, before striking out on his own. Alfonso went on to found his own leather works company and designed his own competition fast draw rigs. Alfonso has outfitted major Hollywood celebrities of westerns such as John Wayne, Gary Cooper, Jerry Lewis and Sammy Davis, Jr.
He was also very well known in the competition fast-draw community. I have over 48 years experience with purchasing guns and gun leather. I have several Arvo Ojala fast-draw rigs, John Bianchi Western Gun rigs, Safariland Western fast-draw gun rig (steel lined holster) as well as Alfonso's of Hollywood fast-draw Western fast-draw rigs.
I also collect vintage gun leather such as Lewis as well. This gun rig was produced with Alfonso was still alive. Alfonso's son has carried on Alfonso's legacy and has a shop still today! Feel free to ask any questions. I'll keep it until a good offer comes along.
